With Valentine’s Day coming up, I’ve been thinking a lot about love and how many different types of love there are.
- Parental love – they raised you! That deserves oodles and oodles of love.
- The love you feel for your brother or sister. I love that look my brother and I give each other when we are both thinking the same thing: “Let’s not tell Mom and Dad.”
- Who doesn’t love their friends? We love their quirks, their honesty and their company.
- Of course, there is the I-want-to-frolic-around-a-field-of-poppies-love people get with their significant others.
But what about puppy love? No, not junior high, “Can you tell Johnny I like him?” love, but literal puppy love.
I love my dog. Is that weird to say? He’s just so cute and cuddly! Hey, I know I’m not the only one who loves their pet, here! He is there when I arrive home, and acts like seeing me is the best part of his day (let’s face it, I’m pretty awesome). But seeing him is just as wonderful. I love it when his tail wags so fast that his behind shakes with it. Plus, I love having someone to dote on and take care of. When it’s cold, he gets tucked in with a blanket. I often surprise him with gourmet dog treats from a local bakery. In the summer he gets to jump, well, slide, off the boat dock into the lake water. My latest purchase for him is a bow tie for his collar for him to wear when he is feeling extra fancy.
This V-Day, I hope every one of you dotes on your pet. Spend an extra minute gazing at the fish tank, give your kitty another can of Fancy Feast or sing along with your canary. And I’ll give my dog a few extra ear-scratches on this special day of love.
